ROYCE SAMUEL HEARE

Royce Samuel Heare, age 66, of  Petersburg, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.

He was born on October 8, 1949 in Cumberland, Md. and was the son of the late Roy and Gladys (Garrett) Heare. 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Retha Heare; two brothers, Ralph “Rabbit” Heare and Lowell Heare; father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Rosella Thorne; two brothers-in-law, William Loy and Henry Snyder and one sister-in-law, Delores Heare. 

Royce graduated from Moorefield High School and attended Potomac State College.  He served in the United States Air Force.  He was employed by Barlow Ford in Moorefield and Laurel Run Mine Company in Mt. Storm, W.Va.  He was the owner of the former Petersburg BP Station and Petersburg Auto Parts (NAPA). He was a partner of Country Cars and Trucks and H2O Properties.

He was a member of Dorcas Ruritan Club. He served on the Grant County Housing Authority Board,  the Grant County Public Service District and the Grant County Board of Education. He currently was serving as Vice president of Grant County Development Authority.  He was an 18 year member of Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company and was currently serving as Treasurer.  He was currently Treasurer of the Green Mountain Hunting Club.  He was a faithful member of the Brake Church of the Brethren where he served on various boards and committees.  He was recently honored with the Earl Ray Tomblyn Governor’s  Award for community service.  
Royce is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debbie (Thorne) Heare; one daughter, Felicity Ours and husband Brian of Petersburg, W.Va.; one son, Todd Heare and wife Beth of Petersburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Caden, Colson and Carlee Ours, Myla and Rowan Heare and two step grandchildren, Evan and Grayson Kimble; three sisters, Bonnie Loy of Romney, W.Va., Myrna Snyder of Stephens City, Va. and Nyla Jane Heishman of Romney, W.Va.;  and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service with Fireman’s Honors was held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Brake Church of the Brethren with Pastor Craig Howard and Pastor Calvin Redman officiating. Interment was in the Brake Cemetery, Dorcas, W.Va.
