Lyle Richard Hardy

Lyle Richard Hardy, age 94 of Fisher, W.Va., passed away Tuesday morning, October 18, 2016 at the Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, W.Va.

He was born on July 15, 1922 in Hardy County, W.Va. and was the son of the late Ottie Stoke Hardy and Bernice Ethel (Barr) Hardy. His wife Gladys Virginia Barr Hardy preceded him in death in September 2008. Three sons, a brother and four sisters also preceded him in death.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, having received four Purple Hearts. He was a Life Member of the Denney-Moyers-Pratt Post #64 American Legion and a past member of the Post#9606 V.F.W. He was a member of the Oak Dale Christian Church and had retired from the Hardy County Schools after driving a school bus for 30+ years. He enjoyed walking up to 5 miles a day when able, working, deer hunting in his earlier years and reading his bible daily.

Surviving is a son, Marvin Hardy of Petersburg, W.Va.; two brothers, Victor O. (Betty) Hardy of Fisher, W.Va. and Carl O. Hardy of Petersburg, W.Va.; a three sisters, Lura Evans of Petersburg, W.Va., Helen Hyre of Petersburg, W.Va. and Anna Lee (Donald) Graham of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Levaughn Hardy of Rig, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Natalie and Joe Dolan and Lauren and Jessie Mongold; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington St., with the Rev. Charles Snyder officiating. Interment followed with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the U.S. Army at the Newhouse Cemetery, Rig Road, Moorefield, W.Va.
