Oliver Coolidge Heishman, 90, of Rio, W.Va. passed away on Saturday October 15, 2016 at his home surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
Born on August 31, 1926 in Fravels Run near Lost River, W.Va., he was the ninth child of Arthur Luther Heishman and Josephine Trueheart Wilson Heishman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Rebecca Ludwig Heishman, (married July 25, 1951), three sons, Roger Allen Heishman and wife Mary Anne Heishman, Clyde Lee Heishman, O. Ferrell Heishman and wife Sherri Heishman, seven grandchildren, Brian Heishman, (Allison Heishman), Christopher Heishman, Shelia Heishman, Carrie Heishman (Gerald Brock), Marcus Heishman, Natalie Heishman and Jennifer Heishman, and four great-grandchildren, Colin Ramsey, Cameron Pinkley, Destiny Cintron and Baron Spencer.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by four brothers, W. Lloyd Heishman, A. Dayton Heishman, Waldo Heishman, Ray Heishman, and five sisters, Ethel Miller, Nellie Headley, Lee Smith, Mary Smith and an infant sister.
Oliver was a self-employed timberman, cutting and hauling pulpwood to Luke, Md. for West VaCo for approximately 45 years except for a few years in the late 40’s when he was a truck driver for Morrison and Son Poultry. He was the recipient of the Logger of the Year in 1980 for eastern W.Va. and a member of West Virginia Forests, Inc. since 1976. He was a member of Sperry’s Run United Methodist Church as well as the President of the board of trustees for approximately 25 years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Sperry’s Run United Methodist Church, 1599 Sperry’s Run Rd., Rio, W.Va. with Pastor Loretta Brinker and Rev. Luther “Nip” Crites officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the Sperry’s Run United Methodist Church, 1599 Sperry’s Run Rd. Rio, WV 26755 or Hospice Promise Foundation, % Grant Memorial Hospice 100 Hospital Dr. Suite 2 Petersburg, WV 26847.
Pallbearers for the procession will be Brian Heishman, Chris Heishman, Marcus Heishman, Gerald Brock, Jerry Heishman, and Gene Allen Heishman.
All arrangements are under the direction of McKee Funeral Home, Baker.
