Gatha Lee Souder, 89, of Mathias, W.Va. died November 16, 2016 at Life Care Center of New Market.
She was born December 22, 1926 in Mathias, W.Va. to the late Lester Westfall and Katie Lee Mathias Garrett.
Gatha was a beautician for 45 years. She was a lifelong member of Garrett’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She served as a board member of Mathias Community Center. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Moorefield, and the Hardy County Democratic Committee. She loved tending to her garden and flowers, and loved cooking for others.
She is survived by her husband, Roland Souder.
Also surviving are one son, Richard Heishman and wife Patricia of Mathias; one granddaughter, Jennifer Haviland of Criders; four grandsons, Aaron Heishman of Washington D.C., Patrick Cowan, Andrew Cowan, Benjamin Cowan, all of Maryland; 8 great grandchildren; special brothers in law, and sisters in law; 14 nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Rev. Jonathan Hedrick conducted a funeral service 10:00 AM Saturday at Garrett’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.
