Leon Edward Ours

Leon Edward Ours, age 87, of Moorefield, W.Va. passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Grant Rehabilitation & Care Center in Petersburg.

He was born May 23, 1929 in Dorcas, W.Va. and was the son of the late Charles  and Mernie (Thorne) Ours. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great grandson, Luke Ours,  three  brothers, Cletus  Ours,  Oscar Ours and William Ours and one sister, Janie Ours Sites; five sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law; two nephews and two great nephews.

Mr. Ours was a retired truck driver from O.F. Riggleman Contractors.  He attended the Believer’s Victory Center in Moorefield, W.Va.  He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.  He was a life member of the Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and American Legion Post 78.  He was an avid gardener. 

Leon is survived by his lovely wife of 64 years,  Delphia M. (Crites) Ours, three sons, Charles Ours of Purgitsville, W.Va., Hank (Sherry) Ours of Moorefield, W.Va., and Roger (Sharon) Ours  of Old Fields, W.Va.;  three daughters, Kathy (Leroy)  Whetzel of South Fork, W.Va.,  Barbara (Allen)  See of Moorefield, W.Va. and Karen (Greg) Riggleman  of South Fork, W.Va.;  fourteen grandchildren and 17 great  grandchildren; eight brothers, Galen (Arvella) Ours,  Bobby  Ours, Dale (Virginia) Ours, Ralph  (Cornellia) Ours, Olin (Carol) Ours, all of Dorcas, W.Va., Paul (Wanda) Ours of Durgon, W.Va., Delmas Ours of Petersburg, W.Va.;  Glenn Ours, resident of E.A. Hawse Rehabilitation Center, Baker, W.Va.;  two sisters, Mernie (Paul)  Kimble of Dorcas, W.Va. and Arvella (John)  Zimmerer of Petersburg, W.Va. and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at 2 p.m.  at the Believer’s Victory Center, 160 Victory Lane, Rt. 48 West, Moorefield, W.Va. with his grandson, Pastor Chris Whetzel officiating.  Interment followed in the Ours Family Cemetery, Rough Run, W.Va. with Military Honors by the Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.

Arrangements were under direction of Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, W.Va.
